"CONFESSIONS OF A CABARET CANTOR!"

03.12.11 |Saturday 8:00 pm

SKOKIE THEATRE

"Confessions of a Cabaret Cantor" was an instant hit at the Skokie Theatre when it debuted last November to a sold out crowd and Brooks only adds to the hilarity of the upcoming remount. The production, featuring Brooks and a full band, is a fun and engaging two-hour performance, which delights the audience with tales from the road, the stage and the synagogue. (Brooks insists names have been changed to protect the innocent!) Brooks is not only a cabaret singer, she's a country singer, she's a rock singer and she's the Cantorial Soloist at Congregation Bene Shalom, in Skokie.

Brooks takes many of her performance experiences, light-hearted, fun and heartbreaking, and blends them with music for a one-of-a-kind night of entertainment. Music styles vary from Bonnie Raitt and Bette Midler, to "Chorus Line" and "Applause" to Klezmer.
The music is fun, and the stories are mostly true!

Davenport's

For years, Charlene Brooks has wowed audiences with her unique combination of musical prowess, engaging banter and dynamic showmanship. In performances such as her sell out Streisand tribute, “Gersheim" show among many others she sings Jazz to Broadway with an appeal like no other.

But in “Life Stinks!" the Chicago-area chanteuse takes her audience where she’s never taken them before. The daughter of concentration camp survivors, Brooks found refuge and release not only in the world of music, but in the wacky cast of family and friends that surround her. Brooks takes you on a sometimes harrowing, sometimes hilarious journey. Interweaving stories of the over-the-top characters that shaped her life, she sings songs of stage, screen and pop classics that set her free.

Remember, pain can be very funny as long as it’s not your own.
